Who We Are

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the national health board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations.

The Finance Directorate operates under a Finance Business Partnering ethos to support NES in delivering their strategic objectives and in the management of its £700m annual budget within a robust and proportionate governance structure.

This senior leadership role will head up the NES Finance Business Partnering team and will provide technical financial advice and future focused decision support to various functions within the organisation, ensuring long term financial sustainability.


The Opportunity

This is an exciting senior leadership opportunity to help ensure the NES Business Partnering team deliver its strategic objectives and to be a key member of senior leadership team within the Directorate supporting the corporate position across NES.

We are seeking an experienced Finance Professional to lead a team of Finance Business Partners, ensuring provision of a comprehensive, effective and customer focused strategic financial advice and decision support service to the organisation.

Senior Finance Managers offer a broad range of skills and experience, if you are a CCAB qualified accountant with post-qualification experience in a senior finance role and can offer some or all of these, we’d love you to apply:

  • Proven leadership experience with expert knowledge of and experience in the application of management accounting techniques to support business decision making
  • A clear knowledge and understanding of finance business partnering and how to support directorates to achieve their goals
  • Aptitude for building key networks and strategic alliances across multiple stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to exercise sound professional judgement in a complex decision-making environment
  • A confident influencer and negotiator with an ability quickly establish credibility with senior colleagues across the organisation
  • Highly effective communicator knowing how to make complex financial information and language simple for a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders (both verbally and in writing, and at all levels).
  • Ability to work on own initiative, to organise and prioritise workload and that of your team, and to meet strict deadlines
  • Line Management and coaching/mentoring experience
