We have an exciting opportunity for an Horticultural and Biodiversity & Grounds Manager to join our team at Law House.

The Role
As a member of the Property and Support Services Division the post holder is responsible for the operational management of the Grounds Services Department within a designated area of NHSL.
As a member of the management team the post holder will provide operational leadership, including staff management and have overall responsibility for ensuring that the efficient carrying out of planned and unplanned grounds maintenance works and to keep NHSL premises open in adverse weather conditions. Horticultural and biodiversity & grounds management is carried out to appropriate standards and specifications.
All duties are to enhance and make a safe/clean and pleasant place for staff visitors and patients. The importance of the service provided includes the fact that the grounds and gardens are the first and last feature of the site that is seen when patients/visitors enter and leave, therefore critical to giving a good impression of NHSL
During the winter months the provision of an on-call service to ensure that ice /frost and snow are cleared from designated NHSL properties, 24 hours a day 7 days a week as per the local agreement. This keeps the hospital roads and footpaths safe and open for patients and staff to use.
The post holder is responsible for management of the effective and efficient delivery of a wide range of services through the use of in-house and contract staff as appropriate & embed sustainable working practices.
The post holder will ensure NHSL grounds related assets are managed effectively in line with the current NHS Scotland and statutory guidance including deriving policies and associated procedures from first principles.

What we'll need you to bring
- The post holder requires to be professionally qualified and hold membership of an appropriate professional body (i.e. Royal Horticultural Society, Chartered Institute of Horticultural), which normally requires a degree or equivalent in an appropriate Horticulture Science and Management /Sustainable, Biodiversity related subjects.
- Demonstrable experience in an operational estate management post in horticultural or related commercial environment is required, plus a post-graduate diploma qualification in operational management, (if not taken as part of the degree) is required to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of the post. An understanding of other Estate operations
- The post holder shall be required to demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of Statutory Standards & the management of Health & Safety. (IOSH Managing Safely)
- Experience of contract: specification; procurement; evaluation of tenders and management & auditing
- Valid full driving licence
It would be great if you also have
- Corporate member of an appropriate professional body, related to Building Services engineering and or estates management.
- Proven track record in building services engineering and or estates management.
- Management experience and knowledge of building services engineering gained in a complex building maintenance environment.
- A good knowledge of current NHS specific legislation is highly desirable with an IOSH qualification
- CPD log and certification demonstration the upgrade and maintenance of current skills and abilities
- Ability to provide technical assistance and expertise, manage staff, contractors, budgets and manage change
- Flexibility in previous roles demonstrating that the post applied for will be carried out in this regard.
