Would you like to put your clinical pharmacy skills into practice and be considered an expert in medicines as part of a multidisciplinary team in beautiful location of the Orkney Islands?

This post provides an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join the team of pharmacists and technicians, providing a high standard of pharmaceutical care to the population of Orkney.

You will be actively involved in the continuing development and delivery of Hospital Pharmacy Services within NHS Orkney, aligned with the visions of Realistic Medicine, Achieving Excellence in Pharmaceutical Care and with strong links across all sectors of healthcare.

Pharmacy Services within Orkney are forward thinking and encourage innovative ways of working to improve the delivery of patient care to the populations of Orkney’s mainland and 12 inhabited outer Isles.

The pharmacy team is integrated across Health and Social Care and you will be based in the pharmacy department of our new healthcare facility, which hosts the hospital and two busy GP practices.

You will utilise, and further develop, your knowledge, skills and experience working across key areas of General Medicine, General Surgery, Cancer Services, Day Unit, Out-patients, Accident and Emergency and Maternity, working as part of a fully integrated team, to deliver patient centred care.

You will have the opportunity work with and gain experience in specialist visiting services including, ophthalmology, renal, and dermatology.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a Master of Pharmacy degree (or equivalent)
  • Have a Diploma or MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience.
  • Be an Independent Prescriber or be willing to undertake the associated training to become an Independent Prescriber
  • Be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Have a high level of professional competence and expert clinical knowledge, reasoning and judgement; with wide ranging knowledge and understanding of pharmacy practice, including ethical and legal requirements
  • Excellent leadership, communication, multi-disciplinary team working and interpersonal skills; with the ability to prioritise work in a self-directed way, under pressure, to manage time effectively.
