Healthcare Support Worker - Medical Laboratory Assistant, Band 3
Applications are invited for a full-time Medical Laboratory Assistant post to join our team, working in a busy department at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, which provides a full range of diagnostic pathology services to NHS Tayside.
Dundee is known as the ‘City of Discovery’ and also as the ‘Scotland Coolest City’ for its culture, which includes the spectacular new V&A design museum on Dundee’s Riverside.
The successful applicants will be required to carry out routine laboratory duties across the various sections of the Department; these will include computer data entry, chemical preparation, archival filing, basic laboratory procedures in support of Biomedical Scientists, general housekeeping and scanning of slides for Digital Pathology medical reporting, all whilst under supervision. The department undertakes 25,000 surgical and autopsy pathology requests per annum, in addition 2000 diagnostic cytology requests on behalf of NHS Tayside. All Cervical Cytology is sent to NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde for reporting.
Candidates should be educated to SVQ level 3 or be able to provide evidence that they have equivalent experience or competencies within a laboratory setting and should have good interpersonal skills and be able to work as part of a team.
The successful candidate will also be expected to undertake extensive training and completion of competence based assessments.
The Department is approved by the Institute of Biomedical Science and NHS Education Scotland as a training laboratory. The department has UKAS Accreditation to ISO 15189 standard.

Hours of work are: 37.5 per week
