An exciting opportunity has arisen within the East of Scotland Major Trauma Service for an Occupational Therapist looking for a new challenge and advancing career development.
This newly established team lead / rehabilitation co-ordinator post provides the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills and supervisory experience working in the Occupational Therapy Major Trauma Team responsible for:
- The coordination of the rehabilitation needs of all patients admitted to the Major Trauma Centre (MTC) at Ninewells Hospital (approximately 50% of role).
- The occupational based assessment, treatment, discharge and onward referral of patients on the major trauma rehabilitation pathway.
- Leadership of a small occupational therapy team committed to the delivery of high quality rehabilitation across the major trauma pathway.
The post holder will primarily initiate and assist with rehabilitation assessments of patients admitted with major trauma, many with complex rehabilitation needs, and will develop, coordinate and ensure the completion of rehabilitation plans for this patient group ensuring that the plan is communicated across the major trauma pathway. The team will work across the patient pathway to deliver high quality occupational therapy care including the acute hospital setting, rehabilitation wards and the community setting.
The post holder will be the lead specialist point of contact for other professionals, patients and families throughout the trauma rehabilitation pathway, liaising with community teams across the East of Scotland ensuring patients are repatriated to their local area as soon as possible with the appropriate rehabilitation they require to achieve their rehabilitation goals.
You should have demonstrable advanced clinical skills/knowledge in this specialist area evidenced from relevant experience, postgraduate courses / in service training, as documented in your Continued Professional Development portfolio with comprehensive knowledge of best practice / clinical guidelines / standards across the specialty. You will also have responsibility for the supervision, education and development of more junior staff, support workers and students within the speciality, provide a specialised resource to other healthcare staff/patients/carers and have an active involvement in Clinical Governance and Clinical Effectiveness and Research. The department has strong links with Universities providing student placements primarily from Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
The AHP Services are fully committed to delivering a 7 day service to improve patient outcomes and reduce length of hospital stay. You will therefore be expected to work 5 days out of 7, including some weekend work, as part of your contracted hours.
