The Department of Public Health and Health Policy aims to improve and protect the health of people in Lothian as part of a whole system approach to public health in Scotland. 

The post-holder will work with a project team within the Maternal and Infant Nutrition Team which is hosted in Public Health and Health Policy.  The Maternal and Infant Nutrition team currently works with frontline staff across Neonatal, Maternity, Family Nursing and Health Visiting services to enhance their skills and knowledge around infant feeding.   The service supports staff to support all mothers and parents during pregnancy and throughout early parenthood, regardless of how they feed their child, to have close and loving relationships with their baby by embedding the concept of responsive feeding. 

Post: Project Midwife – Delivering Early Breastfeeding Support

Tenure: Post 1:  33.5hrs (consists of 4 x 7.5hrs weekdays and 3.5hrs on a Saturday) 1 year fixed term.

               Post 2: 37.5hrs 1 year fixed term.

Salary: AfC Band 6 

Please note: As this post is part-time the salary will be pro-rata.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join NHS Lothian’s Public Health Department as an Project Midwife in the Delivering Early Breastfeeding Support (DEBS) project within the Maternal and Infant Nutrition Service. This project is successfully reducing the drop off in Breastfeeding at 6-8weeks by providing support in the ante-natal and early post natal perid.   The post holder will work with existing project staff using quality improvement methodology to expand the project across West Lothian. 


The successful post holder will work 4 days during the week with 3.5hrs on a Saturday.
