NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. The shift pattern is Monday – Friday 08.30 - 16.30.
The Sustainability Intern will be based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH), with the role covering all sites across NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. You will assist the roll out and implementation of the Estates & Facilities Directorates Environmental Management System, working towards ISO 14001 standard. Support with the environmental processes and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practice. Providing guidance to internal stakeholders on environmental matters, including sustainability initiatives and environmental permitting.
Environmental compliance is critically important in minimising our impact on the environment and is the foundation of our sustainability strategy and Boards annual statutory reporting submissions. This role will support the Sustainability Department in and Estates and Facilities Directorate perspective in our approach to environmental compliance, leading the cross-functional development of our environmental management system for clinical and non-clinical operations, inclusive of policies, tools, data, systems and procedures needed to collectively govern and implement environmental compliance for the largest Health Board in Scotland.
This role will also support with the creation and management of internal processes for collecting and reporting on performance. As the scope and scale of reporting grows, this role will influence the direction of our sustainability strategy
It is essential you have a background in environmental management, science degree or related. Masters would be beneficial as well as working towards membership with a relevant organisation such as IEMA. You will be self-motivated, organised and able to demonstrate application of initiative to deliver a task or project to high standards. Good written and oral communication skills, i.e., dealing with enquiries in a professional and courteous way.
The hours of this post are worked Monday to Friday as part of a 37.5 hour week – happy to discuss hybrid working.
