CLINICAL PHARMACIST – BAND 6 or BAND 7

Full-time – 37.5hours, Permanent (Part time hours considered – please call to discuss)

Salary Scale Band 6 - £37,831 to £46,100 or Band 7 - £46,244 to £53,789

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinically focused and motivated pharmacist to join the pharmacy team at Belford Hospital.  The post has a generalist application and offers a diverse experience, whilst at the same time gaining specialist knowledge and skills.  You will work across different wards, aiming to support your training and development needs as well as the service demands.  Supervision, training and support will be available.

The successful candidate will assist with the training and development of pharmacy students, trainee and junior pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians. Pharmacy technicians are embedded within the team and we are also looking at opportunities for pharmacy support workers to play a valuable role within the overall skillset.  The team are also involved in education and training of the wider MDT, including medical students and medical/nursing staff.

Development opportunities will be available, in the form of quality improvements projects and audit, and participation in governance groups. Support for any education requirements will be provided for any band 6 applicants. For any applicant, support will be available to participate in training opportunities within the wider team and in the other Acute sites if desired.

Candidates should be good communicators; enthusiastic; self-motivated; a strong team player; curious and excited to learn; and be able to problem solve and prioritise. You will be a registered pharmacist with a Masters Degree in Pharmacy and relevant post-registration experience (for the band 7 application) – although band 6 applications will be considered with no previous hospital experience. Post-graduate qualifications including a Diploma/MSc in Clinical Pharmacy and Independent Prescribing are desirable (band 7), but we would facilitate the right candidate to achieve these within the role.  As a department, education is a priority.

We would welcome applications from pharmacists within all sectors of pharmacy, as this role would offer the opportunity to build on transferable skills.  This is an exciting time to join our friendly pharmacy team, as we work towards transforming the way we approach patient care.  As well as developing the clinical roles of pharmacy support staff, we will soon implement HEPMA across all our hospital sites in NHS Highland, improving patient safety and efficiency.

Fort William (the “Outdoor Capital of the UK”) offers the perfect balance of urban living whilst having the beauty and ruggedness of the Highlands on your doorstep, allowing for a healthy work-life balance.  Belford Hospital is a welcoming and supportive environment to work in, and you will quickly get to know the wider hospital team.

Informal enquiries are most welcome, to Alex Kelso, Pharmacy Manager.  Please call re part time working or different work patterns, which would be considered if appropriate.
