We are looking for highly motivated GPs with a passion for clinical care, team-working, excellent inter-personal skills, and an interest in multidisciplinary work in our community.  The role provides out of hours care to the population of 600 residents.  The post has study leave allocation to allow you to acquire and maintain skills to support your practice and interests.  Teaching, research and development of other areas of your portfolio work would be supported and encouraged.

Systems to support you include EMIS PCS and DOCMAN. The health centre has a small dispensary for acute prescribing.  A fully equipped car is provided for the use of the GP while on duty.

The health centre team is friendly, welcoming and supportive. Coffee breaks, social events and team building are an important part of working in a remote location.  Clinical colleagues include 3 rotational GPs, two full time District (Community) nurses, 21 hours Practice nursing, and 15 hours Health care support worker. Support staff include practice manager, 1.5 FTE reception staff.

As a health centre, we arrange clinical and administrative support meetings on a regular basis. There is a weekly touchpoint meeting with other GPs from the smaller island practices, and a shared messaging group for advice and support.  We are developing an islands clinical meeting for Shetland for peer support and to share clinical learning. The practice provides their own Out of Hours cover with the support of the nursing team. Pre-hospital emergency care training (BASICS) would be provided for successful candidates.

For more information, and any questions or informal discussion, please telephone the joint practice managers Isla Inkster or Claire Priest on 01957 711318 or shet.unsthc-pm@nhs.scot, or contact Lisa Watt the primary care manager on 01595 743209 or lisa.watt@nhs.scot.  The practice website gives more information:
