Job Advert

Raigmore Hospital is the principal acute hospital of NHS Highland, which has a catchment area of 12,500 square miles and a population of around 320,000. You are required to have full GMC registration and licence to practice and be on the specialist register for General medicine or be within 6 months of attaining CCT from date of interview.

Working at Raigmore Hospital gives the unique chance to experience the friendliness the Highlands are renowned for, combined with your choice of a buzzing, lively city or expansive open spaces to explore. You would be joining a unique Stroke and Rehab service with a strong multi-disciplinary structure.  We also deliver clinics virtually by phone or NHS Near Me which delights the patients it is appropriate for – NHS Highland covers an area bigger than Belgium so travel to hospital can take some time!

We are looking to maximise clinical, educational and research opportunities for Stroke across the North of Scotland by working to build ties with other NHS Boards. Provision would also be made to develop sub-specialty interests. The consultants are supported by experienced and flexible management, administrative and secretarial teams with a wealth of knowledge, always on hand.

This post also offers an option to provide core activity hours in acute medicine or further increase the provision of Stroke PAs. The extent of either activity is open for negotiation with the successful candidate.

Many staff, in NHS Highland, work and live here because of the unrivalled access to outdoor activities: on-piste or backcountry skiing, rock climbing, munroing, summer/winter mountaineering, or trekking in the numerous magnificent glens come as standard perks of the post. Amazing beaches are both close by and further afield and it is easy to find a beach to yourself even in the peak of summer. Join the many staff comparing their cycle routes on Strava, or improve your game on the fantastic local golf courses. Water sports and fishing possibilities are endless, from river kayaking to open seas and countless lochs. Loch Ness itself lies 10 miles away. And it is all balanced by an extensive and diverse cultural life that you would expect from a larger city. We have a lively Highland Medical Society social scene for Community and Secondary care colleagues to meet. Inverness is a compact city with many lovely nearby villages in which to live, good schools and a University campus next to the hospital. There is a warm, welcoming environment here in the North – we would be delighted for you to come and join us.

Informal enquiries are welcome to: Dr Gethin Williams, Clinical Lead and Consultant Stroke Physician, Gethin.williams1@nhs.scot
