Job Advert

With the current national development of the GP clinical pharmacist role, this post supports GP Practices to undertake a range of roles, including medicines reconciliation, discharge letters, acute and repeat prescription requests,  whilst developing a greater clinical role undertaking polypharmacy reviews in care homes, patients’ own homes or in a homely setting. The senior practice pharmacists within the teams are key to leading and developing the service.   Whilst experience of primary care would be desirable, prospective candidates currently working in other sectors are encouraged to apply as full training will be provided. As an integrated pharmacy service, we run regular staff development sessions on a range of clinical topics, and along with our MDT colleagues, there is regular opportunity to attend wider educational and CPD events.

This post would suit a pharmacist with considerable clinical knowledge and experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, IT skills, who has supervised or trained other staff, and who would like to continue or develop their career in primary care.

It is essential that you have either a relevant post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or prescribing sciences, and in addition, an independent prescriber qualification, or be due to complete within the next 6 months.  We are proud to say that 90% of our primary care pharmacists are independent prescribers, and utilise this skill on a daily basis.

As an integrated pharmacy service, we run regular staff development sessions on a range of clinical topics, and along with our MDT colleagues, there is regular opportunity to attend wider educational and CPD events.

You should have the ability to travel between practices, and across Fife as required for meetings and training events, however this post will be primarily based in practices within one cluster.

Please note that whilst the North East Fife cluster as a whole encompasses the Anstruther, St Andrews, Cupar, Auchtermuchty and Newport area, the successful candidate would only be expected to cover a smaller proportion of the 11 GP practices in this cluster, alongside existing Senior Practice Pharmacists in this area.
