To contribute to the provision of NHS Lothian medicines management services in promoting the use of evidence based quality and cost effective prescribing across general practices.  To work in partnership with other professionals and staff within general practices to deliver pharmaceutical care and reduce risk to patients within NHS Lothian.

The post holder will assist in analysing prescribing information and implementing practice based prescribing initiatives, to influence changes in prescribing and to facilitate the safe, effective and economic use of medicines across the HSCPs.

The NHS Lothian Primary Care Pharmacy and Medicines Service is undergoing an ambitious programme of transformation and integration. Pharmaceutical care is provided by a team of around 100 pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and administrators, working across General Practices and Pharmacotherapy Hubs covering the whole of Lothian.

West Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) are increasing their clinical capacity across Primary Care in support of the Scottish Government’s Achieving Excellence in Pharmaceutical Care strategy and in fulfilment of the plans for a General Practice Clinical Pharmacy Service. We are delighted to offer opportunities to work closely with GPs, other practice staff, community pharmacists, care home staff, other members of the multi-disciplinary team and central team colleagues to support the development and application of high quality, safe, cost effective and evidence-based prescribing in the HSCP.

These posts will give you the opportunity to develop your clinical and technical skills in practice to allow you to work within GP practices and/or the Pharmacotherapy Hub to provide holistic, patient-centred individualised care to improve the safety and effectiveness of individual’s medicines.  There are also opportunities to become involved in joint projects/initiatives within the HSCP as required in accordance with identified local and national priorities.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post. 

If part-time the salary will be pro-rata.
