CAITHNESS GENERAL HOSPITAL, WICK

 Consultant General Surgeon

Whole Time - working 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rota

(part-time also available)

Ref: MS16 176418

Applications are invited for this post of Consultant General Surgeon.

The successful applicant will become an integral part of the surgical services for the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. You will be part of a small dynamic team in Caithness General Hospital which has strong links with Raigmore. You will be able to develop your skills and use your potential to work across the Highlands in conjunction with colleagues based in Inverness. This is an exciting opportunity to develop a high quality service for our rural population. There are two well equipped theatres staffed by an experienced and enthusiastic team.

Your week will consist of a mix of routine lists, clinics and on call.   NHS Highland is actively developing rural surgical provision with laparoscopic bowel resections recently being performed in rural general hospitals.  We anticipate ever closer working with Raigmore to develop surgical services for our local population and support your skill development and retention.

We have a mix of junior doctors and medical students from Aberdeen, GP trainees, FY2s and clinical fellows who benefit from a relatively low volume but high variety of clinical presentations we see in CGH. The environment here allows one to one personalised teaching which our junior doctors appreciate and benefit from as well as regular scenario and lecture based training. We have a dedicated training suite which facilitates the delivery of high quality scenario training. There will be opportunities for research as we continually strive to improve and develop medical services for our remote and rural population.
