Job Advert

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern is Within Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm

(Please note the salary is Pro Rata) for part time hours.

The West of Scotland Paediatric Major Trauma Centre (MTC) went live at the Royal Hospital for Children (RHC) in Glasgow in August 2021. The Paediatric MTC is designed to provide high quality, bespoke, multi-specialty care for seriously injured children, at every stage of their patient journey. Recent data suggest that 30% of children admitted via the MTC are admitted as a result of head trauma (STAG, 2021). This exciting new post has arisen, for a Principal Clinical Psychologist to join a multi disciplinary team of colleagues, who support children admitted to hospital via the MTC. The post will be held within the Paediatric Neuropsychology Service and the post holder will be involved in developing a specialist neuropsychology service to the MTC for children who have experienced head trauma. This will be under the supervision of a Consultant Paediatric Neuropsychologist. The post holder will carry out neuropsychological assessments, generate neuropsychological formulations and input to treatment planning. They will work with families, schools and third sector organisations to promote the best recovery outcomes for children and young people. As this is a new post, there will be a service evaluation and audit aspect to the role, to allow the service to evolve to best meet the needs of the population. The post holder will join a growing national network of clinical psychologists working in paediatric major trauma and will be encouraged to make links across this network. The post holder would be part of a grouping of more than 100 Psychologists in Specialist Children’s Services and of around 350 Psychologists in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board. There are good links both to the West of Scotland Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme (University of Glasgow) and to the MSc in Applied Psychology for Children and Young People (University of Edinburgh). We would welcome applications from Clinical Psychologists with an interest in Paediatric Neuropsychology, who would enjoy the opportunity to be involved in an exciting new service development.
