To undertake the role of an advanced nurse practitioner (ANP), utilizing high levels of decision making and clinical judgment. Ensure that patient health needs are met through the provision of the diagnosis and the management of patient conditions through the assessment, treatment and review planning process in partnership with patients and families.
Provide specialist advice to healthcare professionals, other agencies, carers, clients and relatives. The ANP role encompasses that of expert clinician, educator and auditor.
They will lead and develop the service to improve practice and work collaboratively across healthcare boundaries, implementing and evaluating evidence based standards, guidelines and policies.
The postholder is employed within NHS Lothian and to develop competency and practice within the service will be expected to rotate within the medical specialty, to areas such as Same Day Emergency Care WGH and St Johns, Medical Admissions Unit WGH and NHS Lothian Flow Centre.
The shift pattern is 7 Day working (8-8pm, 10-10pm), with candidates willing to undertake antisocial working hours as the role progresses.

For trainees covered by Annex 21 where the period of training lasts for between one and four years, pay will be as follows:
- up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate;
- more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate of the qualified;
- more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.
- more than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.
