Job Advert
NHS Fife has an exciting opportunity for an experienced pharmacist with a background in hospital, primary care or community pharmacy to be part of an expanding multidisciplinary team to deliver a clinical, patient facing role within GP practices across Fife.
With the current national development of the GP clinical pharmacist role, this post supports GP Practices to undertake a range of roles, including medicines reconciliation, discharge letters, acute and repeat prescription requests, undertaking polypharmacy reviews in care homes, patients’ own homes or in a homely setting.
This post would suit a pharmacist with considerable clinical experience, who has supervised or trained other staff, and who would like to continue and develop their career in primary care. The senior practice pharmacists within the teams are key to leading and developing the service. Whilst experience of primary care would be desirable, prospective candidates currently working in other sectors are encouraged to apply as full training will be provided. As an integrated pharmacy service, we run regular staff development sessions on a range of clinical topics, and along with our MDT colleagues, there is regular opportunity to attend wider educational and CPD events.
You will have a Masters degree in Pharmacy or equivalent and be on the practising register of the General Pharmaceutical Council.
It is essential that you have either a relevant post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy/ prescribing sciences or independent prescriber qualification or are due to complete either within the next 6 months. You will be expected to undertake clinical assessment skills and consultations skills training.
You should have a sound clinical knowledge; have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and good IT skills. You should ideally have previous experience of working within primary care.
Applicants should have the ability to travel to different locations across Fife for meetings and training events, although you will primarily work across the five GP practices in South West Fife alongside the existing Senior Practice Pharmacists in this area. Part time hours will be considered.
For an informal discussion, please contact Calum Murray, Lead Clinical Pharmacist – Primary Care, calum.murray2@nhs.scot
A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Prior to appointment.
