An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and dynamic staff nurse to join the Acute Oncology Assessment Unit at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. The Acute Oncology Assessment Unit (AOAU) provides unscheduled care to patients with an oncological or haematological malignancy who present or become acutely unwell in out-patient and day case treatment areas, as well as those admitted from home via the Cancer Treatment Helpline (CTH). A nurse led model of care underpins the AOAU which is run by experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioners. This post involves working in AOAU and triaging on the CTH. In AOAU you will be part of a multi professional, multi-disciplinary team working collaboratively to assess and manage acutely unwell patients with cancer, whilst ensuring timely referral to appropriate level of medical staff, and admission of patients to an inpatient ward where appropriate. Where possible, patients will be managed as day cases and discharged home. The Cancer Treatment Helpline involves telephone assessment and management of patients who are experiencing side effects of their cancer or their cancer treatment, liaising with other hospitals and primary care teams as appropriate. The role will be predominantly Monday - Friday to support the AOAU opening hours of 8am to 8pm, although weekend shift cover may be required on occasion to support the CTH.
Applications are sought from oncology/haematology nurses or those within an acute care setting who have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, evidence of effective team-working while also being able to work autonomously, and a passion for cancer care. Applicants must be a Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration and provide evidence of continuing professional development.
