Antimicrobial Stewardship Specialist Nurse

Aberdeen Royal Infirmary

Hours: Part time 22.5 hrs per week

Location: Based on Foresterhill Campus

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic registered nurse to embed antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) across NHS Grampian.   You will:

  • work as a core member of the Antimicrobial Management Team (AMT) to enable effective use of antimicrobials, ensure evidence-based prescribing and deliver the AMS Strategy. 
  • work autonomously to lead on quality improvement projects related to the use of antimicrobials.
  • have the opportunity to research within your own area of expertise and present  locally, nationally and globally.
  • Represent NHS Grampian on Scottish Antimicrobial Nurses Group (SANG), work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues in multiple services including medical microbiology, infectious diseases, infection prevention and control, pharmacy and Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy (OPAT) specialist nursing team.
  • advise staff on parent wards regarding appropriate treatment for bacteraemias and will be the lead specialist nurse within this area of care, providing advice to patients and their families/carers as well as other staff and students.
  • Provide advice to patients and their families on the treatment of their infection.
  • have recent, relevant experience and will be supported to further develop their skills and knowledge.
  • be able to evidence effective leadership and change management skills.
