The Role

This is a hands on role within the Projects Management Office team of the Digital Transformation division within the wider Digital (eHealth) department. Digital supports a diverse range of services within the local organisation in addition to external parties and suppliers. You will participate in the planning and technical implementations of new applications which NHSL are committed to providing as part of the Digital Strategy

The duties of the role include but are not limited to:

Assist and advise in the provision of technical aspects of the implementation of applications.

Advise on hardware requirements, carry out hardware surveys

Working with suppliers to configure applications.

Implementing and documenting RBAC

Participate in the technical and interface testing of applications

Participate in the development of contingency plans, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and handover documents to system support teams.

Assist and participate in the handover of new project led system rollouts to business as usual support to be undertaken by system support teams within the wider Digital (eHealth) department.

The position should offer challenge, innovation and be highly rewarding to the successful candidate. The workload on the team can be varied, therefore, sometimes you will be part of a piece of work owned by the Technical Application Managers, whilst at other times you may be the lead for a piece of work being undertaken by the team.

What we'll need you to bring

  • Sound problem solving and analytical skills
  • Proven general I.T.Technical skills and knowledge
  • Strong documentation skills with proven ethos in the importance of documentation.
  • A strong communicator with experience of working collaboratively with colleagues with good interpersonal skills with the ability to enthuse individuals in the adoption software solutions that may be deliverable by the Digital department
  • Ability to solve problems and make logical decisions which fit with NHSL’s values
  • Ability to build effective relationships and influence other stakeholders where necessary
  • Ability to plan and prioritise own and others workloads
  • Work independently and collaboratively where required
  • Working knowledge of Clinical applications
  • Be familiar with the principles and methods of Project Management
  • Experience of NHS Scotland Healthcare systems would be advantageous but not essential


It would be great if you also have

  • Qualified in an IT related subject
  • Proven track record in the support of TCP / IP networks and MS Windows server operating systems
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory 
  • Knowledge of applications used within Healthcare 
  • Knowledge or project management methods and principles
  • Knowledge of "Code Light" development tools such as M365 power apps or MS Access
  • May be required to participate on department on-call rota
  • Experience of supervising other staff
  • Knowledge of powershell scripting or similar scripting languages.

This role will be based in Digital / eHealth - Digital Transformation PMO Team within Kirklands NHSL Headquarters

The working pattern for this role is Mon - Fri.  This role is offered on a hybrid working model with minimum 2 days per week in the office
