Job Vacancy: Dental Therapist/s

Permanent Contract: 2 x full-time vacancies

(part-time would also be considered)

Dental Therapy opportunities have arisen within NHS Lothian’s Oral Health Service

We currently have 2 x full time available, part-time would also be considered.

This is an exciting opportunity for committed and experienced individuals to provide efficient and effective dental therapy support to the Public Dental Service arm of the Oral Health Service here in NHS Lothian

The posts would involve working a variety of sites providing:

  • All aspects of clinical treatment using the full scope of practice for:
    • referred anxious children and adults (including the use of nitrous oxide inhalation sedation – training can be given)
    • continuing care children and adults with additional needs in various clinical settings.
    • patients who are in hospital or are out-patients at various acute hospital sites, including patients undergoing oncology treatment at the Western General Hospital – dental treatment is provided either at WGH or there are some sessions within Edinburgh Dental Institute.
    • elderly patients either in clinic or in hospital, or by domiciliary to care homes and residential facilities.
  • Visiting area primary schools for the inspections and data collection for the National Dental Inspection Programme (NDIP)
  • Occasional clinical supervision for the students from the BSc OHS programme (University of Edinburgh)
  • Providing support for the Caring for Smiles programme for the elderly in care settings

organisational, and planning skills.
