NHS Lothian Pharmacy & Medicines Service

Lead Pharmacist – Community Pharmacy Development

Fixed Term for up to 12 months

Up to 0.6WTE (3 days / 6 sessions)

 (AfC Band 8A £56,992 - £61,522 pro rata)

NHS Lothian covers Edinburgh city, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian. We are the second largest health system in NHS Scotland and one of only four teaching Boards. We have strategic partnerships with local Universities, Local Authorities and our four Integration Joint Boards. We serve a population of 900,000, providing a range of primary, community based and acute hospital services. We also provide regional and national services across a range of clinical specialties.

The vision for the Pharmacy & Medicines service is to deliver clinically led, person-centred services to ensure patients across Lothian get the best from their medicines and pharmacy services.  We are focussed on creating an environment where each person in the team has the opportunity to flourish, develop and make best use of their skills.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic pharmacist(s) to join our established Community Pharmacy Development Team supporting the community pharmacy network across NHS Lothian.  The successful candidate(s) will work alongside an additional post-holder who undertakes the same role. The post holder(s) will also work closely with colleagues in pharmacy services and Health and Social Care Partnerships to scope, develop and deliver services for patients in support of Achieving Excellence and NHS Lothian’s Pharmaceutical Care Services Plan.

Working closely with the Pharmaceutical Consultant in Public Health, the successful candidate(s) will introduce and take forward services aimed at reducing health inequality across the Board through development of public health services, PGDs, Pharmacy First and Pharmacy First Plus.  The post holder(s) will also work closely with the Primary Care Contractor Team to ensure all aspects of the community pharmacy contract are optimised across the Board, utilising data and information sources to report at Board and HSCP levels.

The post holder(s) will be a UK registered pharmacist with experience in service development, negotiation with a range of stakeholders and experience of delivering training to a range of healthcare professionals. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. This post requires PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland check.

Candidates must have a Master of Pharmacy Degree or equivalent, be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), and should have completed a post graduate qualification in pharmacy or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency.
