Adults with Complex and Exceptional Needs Service (ACENS)

The ACEN service is a highly specialised nurse led service which is unique within adult healthcare in Lothian. Providing care at home to patients and their families who have exceptional and complex health care needs along with diverse and wide-ranging psychosocial issues. This may include patients who are technology dependant e.g., mechanical ventilation. The care needs of the patient group demand knowledge and skills set which is patient and speciality specific.

ACENS staff work as a lone worker but as part of a wider team.  Staff have continual access to indirect support. This is a very rewarding post enabling patients to live in their home environment and access the wider community.  

We are looking for Registered nurses who:

  • Ideally have current experience in a community, respiratory or neurological healthcare environment, although full training will be provided to successful candidates.
  • Are comfortable working on their own in a patient’s home with indirect support from the wider team
  • Confident supervising junior staff, undertaking the nurse in charge of the shift
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Have a thorough and up to date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice?

Post 1 – 20hrs West

Post holder will work primarily 3 weekdays evenings 1730-02130 plus Sun 1340-2130, the post holder may be required to rotate to night shift on occasion.  This post will be predominantly based in West Lothian however on occasion the post holder will be asked to work in other areas of Lothian due to wider service needs.

Post 2 – 20hrs Mid

Post holder will work primarily weekdays 0820 – 1510, the post holder will be required to rotate to weekends and night shift on occasion.  This post will be predominantly based in Midlothian however on occasion the post holder will be asked to work in other areas of Lothian due to wider service needs.

Post 3 and 4 - 37.5hrs- (part time available) – Pan Lothian

Post holder will work predominantly nightshift but will be required to rotate onto dayshift on occasion to meet service demand
