South Genetics Service



Advanced Biomedical Support Worker

Band 3: 37.5 hrs per week

Salary: £25,468 – £27,486 per annum

An opportunity has arisen for an Advanced Biomedical Support Worker to join our team.  The Genetics laboratory provide a comprehensive diagnostic molecular genetics and cytogenetics service for a population of approximately 1.25 million, throughout the south east Scotland area, and receive a number of samples from multiple disciplines, including national and international referrals.

The successful applicant will be required to work as part of a team and undertake a range of both technical and administrative duties under the supervision of senior scientific and technical staff.

Duties will include receipt and processing of samples for routine molecular and cell culture techniques and the operation and maintenance of a range of specialist laboratory equipment. This will be fulfilled by working to standard operating procedures.  The role also comprises of monitoring the stock of laboratory reagents and consumables. There is a requirement to participate in the provision of results for routine internal quality control.  

Administrative duties include the input of patient demographics and test requests into LIMS systems and the electronic storage of laboratory documentation, in an accurate and timely manner, using laboratory information systems, including Q-pulse and INVU.

The successful applicant will have responsibility for their own health and safety, as well as that of others and there is a requirement to work safely with hazardous chemicals and biological samples, on a daily basis.
