An exciting opportunity to join the NHS Lothian Arts Psychotherapy Service, one of the largest in the UK – a team comprising of over 30 Arts Psychotherapists, working across all age groups and all localities served by NHS Lothian.

The Arts Therapies Service provides Art, Music, Drama, Dance Psychotherapy services to children, young people, adults and older adults with complex needs across all of NHS Lothian and specific additional partners (i.e. local authority social care and third sector organisations). Arts Psychotherapy may be offered within NHS venues or other community facilities. 

For this role Arts Psychotherapy will be provided within a Community Mental Health team to those experiencing significant emotional instability &/or relational injury using an Mentalisation Based Treatment theoretical framework.

The successful applicant will be embedded within an Edinburgh Mental Health Team, as part of the Arts Psychotherapy wider service. The requirement is to gather evidence, through clinical delivery, for developing a new post to meet the targets in Action 15 of the Mental Health Strategy.  

The expectation will be to deliver a group and I:I sessions using the MBT approach and to actively support Service User’s to link with other support available within the community (ie arts in health projects, peers support services, further education opportunities).

The post-holder will also be required to link with other members of the Arts Psychotherapies team, especially when considering supporting discharge from an inpatient admission.

This post may be of specific interest to clinicians with experience of working with adults with complex mental health needs. Training and development opportunities and regular clinical supervision and line management will be provided by the Arts Psychotherapy Team. MBT Skills training will be provided but a good understanding of the model in advance is preferred. Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration is essential.

We are looking for someone who is highly motivated and creative in their approach and has had previous experience of working adults using a range of verbal and non-verbal communication. The post holder will be expected to work independently using own initiative and as a team member, linking closely and communicating effectively with other health and social care professionals, and families as appropriate.
