Raigmore Hospital, Inverness
Specialist Doctor in OTOLARYNGOLOGY
(40 hours per week)
£88,118 - £100,011 per annum pro rata
Applications are invited for a post of Specialist Doctor in Otolaryngology, based at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. The post would suit a candidate with significant experience in ENT and an interest in career development and increasing both subspecialist experience, teaching skills and managerial responsibilities. There is significant consultant-led support within the department to refine the post depending on the needs of the candidate.
Applicants at Specialist Doctor level will have completed at least ten years clinical experience post registration and six years with the ENT speciality. The candidate would be part of the middle grade ENT rotation on a 1 in 6 basis.
There is a well-organised and well-established ENT service within the Highlands supplying clinical services to both the central population around Inverness and also the more remote and rural parts of the Highlands and Western Isles. The post holder will be expected to support these services, working within the team centrally to continue to provide a high class clinical service to the population of the region. There is a well-developed sub-specialisation within the department including Head and Neck Oncology, Otology, Rhinology, Paediatrics, thyroid/parathyroid surgery and Facial Plastics. It is expected that the candidate would work to develop a subspecialist interest to complement others within the department along with an independent peripheral clinical practice and a training and managerial interest. The successful candidate will be encouraged to become an integral part of the department both clinically and administratively.
Raigmore Hospital is a modern District General Hospital of around 454 beds with extensive training responsibilities and serving a very wide geographical area. It is one of the 5 Cancer Centres in Scotland and has clinical facilities comparable with most University Teaching Hospitals with expanding research support and opportunities. Good links exist with the well-established Highlands and Islands Health Research Institute. The department plays an important role in the teaching of undergraduate medical students from the University of Aberdeen.
There is an ENT library held within the department and the new Centre for Health Sciences on the Raigmore Hospital site provides state of the art conference, meeting, library and clinical skills facilities.
