*Secondment Opportunity/ Fixed term for 9 months to cover substantive post holder maternity leave
An exciting Secondment opportunity has arisen for a Registered Adult Nurses to join The Major Trauma Ward in Ninewells Hospital.
Ninewells Hospital is home to The East of Scotland Major Trauma Centre (EoS region), which opened on 19th November 2018 as part of the Scottish Trauma Network.
Ninewells Hospital already has extensive experience in dealing with major trauma and Tayside clinicians have pioneered patient pathways to improve outcomes for trauma patients. All adult major trauma patients from across Tayside and north east fife go directly to Ninewells Hospital, and have done so for around 20 years – the hospital team is one of the most experienced in the country.
The (EoS) Major Trauma Centre is also home to the Tayside Trauma Team who delivers pre-hospital critical care from Ninewells Hospital Emergency Department. They attend road traffic collisions and industrial or agricultural incidents so treatment is provided as close to the time of injury as possible. This existing arrangement compliments the expert care delivered by the Scottish Ambulance Service, improving outcomes for major trauma patients.
As a member of staff in the Major Trauma Ward and working alongside our colleagues in the Emergency department, Hospital specialities and our AHP team, you will be part of the team of providing care within the Acute and Rehabilitation phase of the major trauma patients’ care pathway.
For staff in the EoS, the STN brings a new major trauma service ensuring many different specialities work together to ensure the best outcomes for patients. This new, multi-disciplinary approach will mean the patient journey is coordinated from the point of admission, ensuring the patient is taken to the right place as quickly as possible, through to discharge. Each patient admitted to the Major Trauma Ward will be under the care of a dedicated Major Trauma Consultant who will work with the MDT throughout the entire patient journey.
Registered Nurse with valid UK NMC Registration. Applicants must be registered on Sub-part 1: RN1 of the NMC Register and it would be beneficial although not essential to have previous experience in trauma. Registrants joining the dedicated nursing team will be supported in further advance nursing skills and knowledge within the field of multi speciality trauma care. We will provide education, practical knowledge and training to ensure you can be the best that you can be and become a member of our team.
The Major Trauma Ward is a fast paced and dynamic unit dedicated to delivering high standards of care to patients admitted with trauma injuries. Our nursing teams are focused on person centred care and aim to provide a high quality service in a safe environment where the needs of each patient are cared for in a professional and holistic manner in all aspects of major trauma.
We will offer you the opportunity to rota within the department to further enhance your experience and knowledge.
