NHS Lanarkshire - University Hospital Monklands

Consultant Dermatologist (2 posts)

We welcome applications from candidates seeking to join our Dermatology team in NHS Lanarkshire.

Through innovative models of care, we provide a high quality service, utilising phototriage to maintain urgent waits for skin cancer and severe dermatoses. Candidates seeking to develop an interest in Medical Dermatology/ Paediatric Dermatology or Skin Cancer & Mohs will find a wealth of pathology available. The department has a strong history of research with excellent support available, and is linked with the West of Scotland registrar training scheme. Trainee reports remain outstanding, with the department providing a nurturing environment to allow growth, and support eportfolio requirements and opportunities. Liaison with Glasgow allows for varied regional and local CME and Governance programmes, and links with Forth Valley allow for Regional innovations. Embedded within our service are two Dermatology pharmacists along with senior/specialist nurses which allows a multidisciplinary team approach, and offers an excellent opportunity for a new appointee to help shape the service. With the prospect of Scotland’s first technological hospital in the Monklands Hospital Replacement Programme currently ongoing, opportunities are available to innovate the service, with plans to include a dedicated Mohs service in the new build.

Successful candidates will be encouraged to pursue a subspecialty interest.

The job is offered as a full-time post on a 10 PA basis (including up to 2 non-DCC) but applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full-time. If full-time, up to 2 EPA’s may be available to undertake additional clinical activity.

The University of Glasgow enjoys close links with NHS Lanarkshire, and our medical students benefit greatly from the excellent educational opportunities provided by the board in both primary and secondary care. Those who are or who will be involved in teaching our students, or in any other activity which involves a contribution to teaching, research or scholarship within the University are eligible for honorary status at the University of Glasgow.

Honorary Status Role Holders are entitled to numerous benefits including a University of Glasgow ID card, use of the Library and other facilities, and a University IT account as required for their role. They have access to all courses run by the IT Services on the same basis as members of staff and are also permitted an educational discount when PC equipment is purchased through the IT Services.
