Mental Health Services in Forth Valley deliver 24 hour emergency mental health assessments by a team of highly skilled and educated professional nurses and doctors. The Mental Health Acute Assessment and Treatment Service (MHAATS) is based in Forth Valley Royal Hospital (FVRH) covering the whole of Forth Valley health board and providing in a single team, emergency mental health assessment, Liaison Psychiatry, intensive home treatment and crisis support.  As a result of further development of the service to support inpatient care and treatment, we seek to appoint to the following positions:

  • 1 wte Band 7 Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)/Trainee ANP – Permanent
  • 1 wte Band 7 Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)/Trainee ANP – Secondment / Fixed-term for 12months

Applications are invited from highly motivated individuals who have significant post registration experience and knowledge of mental health assessment.  Applicants will have an established depth of knowledge of all common and undifferentiated mental health presentations and provide autonomous and expert assessment, diagnosis and treatment to patients.  This position requires a high level of autonomous practice and leadership skills to meet the demands of this dynamic and challenging role.  Applicants should show commitment to continuing professional development and engagement in the ANP pathway to work across the four pillars of advanced practice.

This post will also be considered as in training position under Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change terms & conditions.

We will also consider applications for trainee posts (as Annex 21) and will support the development of individuals to meet advanced practice competencies through the triangulation approach of academic courses, mentorship and clinical supervision. Applicants for trainee posts should have demonstrated evidence of undertaking courses relevant to the advanced practice pathway or willingness to undertake relevant courses.

The role is 37.5hours per week with an expectation to work shifts, including twilight/ night shift. ANPs within the service will work across all of the functions of the Emergency Mental Health Team that include the Liaison Psychiatry within FVRH, within the community covering intensive home treatment and crisis work and to provide ANP input into inpatients mental health wards. The latter is a new development in the service and one which the new successful applicant will help evaluate.  The role will include some supervision of junior staff within the service.

Ability and willingness to travel throughout the area of service delivery is essential for this post.
