The Role

To contribute to the strategic planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Lanarkshire ADP strategy and delivery plans.

To contribute to the strategic planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Joint Future Agenda.

To provide expertise to the ADP and Joint Future Implementation Groups (JFIG) on the national and local issues effecting drugs and alcohol policy.

What we'll need you to bring

The post holder should be educated to degree level, should have a post grad or Master’s degree or evidence of working at that level as well as demonstrable working experience within a health and social care environment at a strategic level. 

They will have a demonstrated track record in project management, partnership working, service development and planning.  A high level of communication skills both verbal and written is required, in addition to strong leadership qualities, including the ability to motivate others.

Specialist knowledge of alcohol and drug issues, gained either through experience or post-graduate study is desirable, although emphasis is placed on knowledge and expertise across a number of subject areas, e.g. clinical, monitoring and evaluation, commissioning, finance etc.

Additional Skills

Planning & Organisation: The post holder is required to contribute to the formulation of long-term strategic plans, often involving financial uncertainty and which may impact across a range of ADP partner organisations.


It would be great if you also have

Track record in project management, partnership working, service development and planning

Extensive experience of working within health or social care settings at a strategic level

Significant experience of multi-agency working in a specialist capacity

Good understanding of public and third sector organisations

Experienced in a range of training methods and to a wide audience e.g. members of the public, clients in services, partners across a range of organisations, MPs etc

Ability to work on own initiative in a proactive manner

Ability to prioritise and work to deadlines

Ability to work accurately

Ability to persuade and influence others

Commitment to team and partnership working

Car driver with access to car and a full, valid UK/EU/EEA licence

From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced.  Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

NHS Lanarkshire will implement this change but it may not be possible to fully transition from 1 April and there may therefore be some areas of the organisation where implementation may take longer.  If the department is currently unable to safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety - you will, of course, be remunerated accordingly. NHS Lanarkshire is committed to full implementation of the 37 hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
