Position:
An opportunity has arisen for two Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist based at University Hospital Crosshouse.
What you will do:
Your duties will involve performing complex procedures, validating analytical data and operating complex analytical equipment. There is a requirement for a high degree of written and technical accuracy.
You will write, review and implement standard operating procedures, maintain quality assurance standards and train all grades of staff. You will be the first-line manager for trainee specialist and specialist biomedical scientists in the department. You will be directly involved with appropriate responsibilities for achieving and maintaining laboratory standards.
The post involves rotating through all sections of the department including general Haematology, Blood Transfusion and working at the satellite laboratory at University Hospital Ayr.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:
You are required to be proficient in, have knowledge of, or undertake training in the following:-
•You must have attained MSc in Biomedical Science OR attained Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science(FIBMS).
•Must have current Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and be able to provide evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to satisfy HCPC and any external accreditation bodies.
•Must attain the IBMS Quality Management Certificate.
•Must have detailed understanding of departmental procedures and practices underpinned by theoretical knowledge and the departmental training program. Must be able to impart this knowledge to trainees, students and to other staff.
•A good working knowledge of the Q-Pulse quality management system is required.
•A good working knowledge of the Datix Incident Management System is required
•Number and keyboard skills are required. Must have excellent hand/eye co-ordination.
•High standard of safety training is required to process samples and use reagents according to the laboratory safety protocols.

Driving Licence/Car Ownership:
Driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential to this role.
