This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the leadership of a high-performance team with a positive team culture that prioritises an enjoyable experience in the workplace to support each other in reaching our full potential. If you’re a pharmacy technician or a science graduate with at least two years experience in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility, and this is what you value for your career, then we urge you to consider the role of Production Manager of the Radiopharmacy at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE).
The Radiopharmacy is a team of 10 people, made up of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, scientists and support workers that provide a radiopharmaceutical service to eight hospitals across Lothian, Fife and the Borders. The Radiopharmacy operates under a Manufacturer’s “Specials” Licence, issued by the MHRA, and due to the retirement of the previous post-holder, we are looking for a new Production Manager.
The Production Manager leads the Radiopharmacy’s Production Team and works closely with the Quality Control Manager to maintain the high standards of GMP and positive team culture that has been long established in the department. We’re looking for someone who is approachable, efficient and strongly team-focused to lead the Radiopharmacy’s busy sterile manufacturing service for technetium-99m and gallium-68 radiopharmaceuticals.
The Production Manager will be named as the person responsible for production on the MHRA licence, so must meet the MHRA’s requirements to fulfil this role. Applicants must have at least two years post-qualification relevant GMP experience and can be either a registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council, or have a suitable degree in a relevant science subject and be registered on an accredited healthcare register (Register of Clinical Technologists, Academy for Healthcare Science, or the Health and Care Professionals Council). Knowledge, training and experience in radiopharmaceutical production, or as a Production Manager in a GMP facility are essential for this role.
Radiopharmacy’s opening hours are 0730 to 1600 Monday to Friday and the Radiopharmacy staff all contribute to the pharmacy service provided to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at weekends and on public holidays.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
