Professional Development Opportunity

Trainee Specialist Practitioner District Nurse

(Progressing to band 6 District Nurse on successful completion of the programme)

To undertake study to meet the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) professional standards for:

Specialist Practitioner Qualification (SPQ) Community Nurse in the Home

(District Nursing)

Are you a dynamic, hardworking and innovative registered nurse looking to develop your career? Are you ready to become a student again?  We are currently offering permanent contracts and funding for course fees, in preparation for taking on a key role in delivering the community health agenda in Lothian as Trainee Specialist Practitioner District Nurses.

Successful candidates will be invited to study on a full time basis of 37.5 hours for 12-18 months dependent of prior experience*. A range of opportunities and locations will be discussed at interview.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  Your offer/contract of employment will therefore reflect the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.

Successful candidates will be remunerated in line with their current salary, and applications are welcomed from nurses currently working at band 5 or band 6. Upon successful completion of the course you will be offered a post as a Specialist Practitioner District Nurse (Band 6) within Lothian Health and Social Care Partnerships. Graduates will be expected to consolidate practice within the District Nursing Service for two years post registration.

To apply you will need to:

Be free to study from September 2024 for 12 months or 18 months depending on previous experience*

Meet the university course entry requirements

Complete an application form

*Candidates who have previously completed CDM and V300 are eligible to complete the course over 12 months
