Diagnostics Laboratories
Department of Blood Sciences, Biochemistry
Biomedical Scientist/Trainee, Band 5 or trainee Annex 21 para 2 (iii)
This is an opportunity for a qualified HCPC registered Healthcare scientist or trainee working towards HCPC registration to work in a busy department which provides a full range of clinical and diagnostic services to NHS Tayside, North-East Fife and South Grampian.
The Blood Sciences Department is based on two sites at Ninewells Hospital, a large Teaching Hospital and Medical School, Dundee and Perth Royal Infirmary, Perth.
We are looking for a member of staff that can demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team and has the enthusiasm to train further. You will be working in a fully refurbished state of the art laboratory with Siemens automation and to specialise in Biochemistry. The Department provides specialist services in Drugs of Abuse testing, metabolic disorders, protein analysis and Point of Care Testing.
Post qualification professional development is encouraged and supported. On attaining appropriate competences you will have a sessional commitment to the Out of Hours sessions which will include weekend, evening and overnight duties.
You must be registered with the Healthcare Professions Council [HCPC] or have an IBMS accredited degree and willing to undertake the IBMS registration portfolio to gain HCPC registration.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
