Performance Analyst

Who We Are
As NHS Scotland's unique provider of a national tele-health and tele-care service, we are responsible for the delivery of health advice and information by telephone and online services to the population of Scotland 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. NHS 24 is a patient-focused service providing the people of Scotland with triage, advice, guidance, referral and information on health and healthcare services.
Where We Are
We have six regional centres – Aberdeen, Dundee, South Queensferry, Hillington, Cardonald and Clydebank. NHS 24 supports hybrid working, and this post can be based within any NHS 24 regional centres. The successful candidate must be within commuting distance to a regional centre to attend if required and must also be able to travel to other regional centres when requested to attend meetings, undertake training and any other activities.
The Role
The Performance Analyst will support the Performance team in its role of developing and delivering an organisational business intelligence strategy. You will be a specialist in a range of reporting, data visualisations and analysis models, providing NHS 24 with subject matter expertise to enable all services and channels to make optimum decisions based on adequate data intelligence.
The post holder will provide the day-to-day support and development of the staff within the Performance team. They will hold extensive technical knowledge and understanding of business intelligence tools, data visualisation systems and associated technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advice, support, and direction to the senior managers across NHS 24 and in conjunction with others provide integral input and support to service development project teams.
- Be a key player in project initiatives, which involve reporting providing specialist advice and support to frontline operations.
- Regularly meet with operational leads and provide the opportunity to discuss in detail service performance against AOP and directorate targets.
- Using subject matter expertise combined with knowledge of NHS 24 processes support senior managers in the analysis of service and agent performance information.
- Identification and escalation of risks regarding service performance.
- Maintain business intelligence documentation and analysis information throughout the year, highlighting any variances against plan and offering potential solutions.
- Continually consider and promote ideas and suggestions to improve the current suite of planning and performance management information and help create new reports to reflect the development of new and forthcoming service initiatives.
- Provide accurate and timely business intelligence reports, statistical data and insightful analysis on service performance on a regular basis and ensure all information produced is prepared to agreed specifications.
- Develop suitable material to help train senior managers to understand the importance of performance management. Work with managers and suggest changes which would improve performance reviews and help achieve targets.
- Responsible for the implementation and ongoing delivery of the business intelligence data quality strategy, ensuring data within the business intelligence environment remains robust by validating and auditing the available performance data.
- Work alongside the Senior Information Performance Analyst by being responsible for the quality assurance of all data, formulas, and calculations in relation to all associated reports available across all services to all users.
The successful applicant will:
- Educated to degree level in a numerical/technical discipline or equivalent experience in the providing expert guidance on the development of business intelligence.
- Experience in providing analysis and presentation of performance data.
- Demonstrable significant experience in the use of a business intelligence tools (such as Business Objects, SAS, Crystal, CorVu, etc.) for the slicing and dicing of large volumes of complex data.
- Demonstrable significant experience in the use of a data visualisation tools (such as Power BI) for the analysis and presentation of large volumes of complex data.
- Strong understanding of SQL language/database.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Flexibility in approach with excellent time management skills
- Evidence of a highly numeric, fast thinking approach.
- Innovative and proactive approach to change.
- Ability to balance a heavy workload whilst keeping an attention to details.
Benefits:
NHS 24 offers a complete benefits package, with a permanent contract on Band 6 £37,831 - £46,100 (pro rata). Placement on salary scale is dependent on confirmation of previous relevant NHS service.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
