The Directorate of Medical Education is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic individual to assist in the delivery of undergraduate teaching at the Royal Hospital for Children. The post would ideally suit any post Foundation trainee with paediatric experience of at least 1 year training or equivalent, and who has an interest and aptitude in teaching.
The post is for one year from August 2024.
The postholder will focus on the organisation, development and provision of paediatric teaching to undergraduate medical students from Glasgow University. Teaching will comprise a mixture of bedside teaching, facilitated tutorials and simulation. A regular contribution to other teaching, including multi-disciplinary teaching and supporting the NHSGGC Widening Access to Medicine Programme will also be expected.
It is anticipated that 8 sessions (32 hours) per week will be devoted to teaching activities (worked flexibly). The remaining 2 sessions are available to maintain clinical practice.
This post does not attract a banding.
Allocation of site specific clinical and teaching duties will be outlined in the postholder’s job plan organised by the site Hospital Sub Deans, Associate Director of Medical Education and Simulation Lead. Other duties may be allocated from time to time as directed by the Director of Medical Education.
Candidates must be fully registered with the GMC with a current Licence to Practice, and must have completed Foundation training. Evidence of an interest in and an aptitude for teaching is essential; and possession of a higher postgraduate qualification (e.g. Royal College Paediatrics and Child Health) highly desirable.
The successful candidate will be based at the Royal Hospital for Children.
