An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered nurse, who is keen to develop their scope of practice and clinical experience by joining the multidisciplinary teams within Critical Care Services in NHS Tayside. Critical Care Services is made up of the following four units within the Directorate of Surgery.
At Perth Royal Infirmary
High Dependency/Coronary Care Unit - cares for 4/4 patients, in each aspect of the unit, with CCU providing a nurse-led chest pain triage service and telemetry to adjacent wards.
At Ninewells Hospital
Intensive Care Unit - has 8 beds, caring for patients who require level 3 care.
Surgical High Dependency Unit - cares for up to 10 patients requiring level 2 care.
Medical High Dependency Unit – cares for up to 6 patients requiring level 2 care.
The role of these services is to work as a single system to enable the effective delivery of high quality patient services for level 2 and level 3 in-patients across Tayside. Our services are situated on two sites, approximately 25 miles apart.
You will have a primary base at CCU/HDU Perth Royal Infirmary. Secondment opportunities are available to gain knowledge and skills in caring for level 2 surgical patients and level 3 patients. In addition, there will be occasions where emergency redeployment to the Ninewells site will be necessary due to clinical need.
You will be required to be registered on Sub-part 1: RN1 or RNA or Sub-part 2: RN2 of the UK NMC Register. You will ideally have post registration experience. You will have completed the Flying Start Programme, and you must be willing to undertake further study.

Hours of work are: 37 hours per week with day/night rotation.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
