Applications are invited for a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join the Speech and Language Therapy teams working in NHS Lothian.

14.9 hours are available within the Special School team in Edinburgh. The post will be based at Oaklands School in the north-west of Edinburgh. The school provides a supportive learning environment for learners with additional support needs aged 2½ to 18 years old.

It is essential that you are familiar with Microsoft Office software such as Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint and that your written and spoken language skills are of a high standard. It is desirable that you have previous experience of Boardmaker Picture Library, although some training on this can be provided. Additional training with AAC devices will be provided as required. You will be part of a busy team often working to tight deadlines and must be able to complete tasks quickly and efficiently.

The Speech and Language Therapy service is innovative and supportive.  It is committed to the principles of clinical governance and clinical effectiveness to provide a high quality service focused on the child’s needs.  Support is provided for staff in district based and clinically focused teams. All staff have a personal development plan and are encouraged to extend their skills through a variety of CPD activities.

SLT assistants need to have Enhanced PVG clearance and experience of working in childcare settings. Applicants should possess strong organisational and IT skills. Experience of working within school settings and supporting families in the community would be an advantage.
