Clinical Research Fellow in Infectious Diseases

Applications are welcome for the above Fixed Term, part time (40 hours per week).
The post will be based in the Regional Infectious Disease Unit (RIDU) for the 12 month period based at the Western General Hospital and replaces an existing research fellow post. The majority of the research work will be carried out in RIDU with a smaller proportion of time spent at the New Royal Infirmary, Little France and St Johns Hospital, Livingston.
The research fellow will be responsible for the oversight of the clinical aspect of infectious diseases studies in NHS Lothian including optimising care of patients with a wide range of infections including HIV, Influenza, COVID-19 and a wide range of bacterial pathogens.
The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of clinical research trials including screening of, recruiting and consenting research study participants and providing clinical review for any adverse events in pariticipants in the research study. The Clinical Infection Research Group has a wide base of Principal Investigators with a broad range of research areas and there will be opportunity for self -direction and development of work related to the fellow’s interests. Taking on a sub PI role and contributing to writing research articles will be encouraged. The fellow will work alongside highly experienced research nurses in the Clinical Research Facility, WGH and RIE as well as the Clinical Infection Research Group (CIRG) at RIDU. The research fellow will be supernumerary to the general infectious diseases medical team but depending on their interests can be involved in ward work, outpatient work or on-call work if appropriate, taking account of research responsibilities.
