Healthcare Chaplain

Following a service review, exciting opportunities have arisen to join our team of healthcare chaplains within NHS Lothian. 
We have vacancies at our main sites (full-time and part-time). We have posts at St John’s Hospital, Livingston, the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, the Western General Hospital and in our mental health service at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital.
We are looking for people educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline e.g. theology, religious studies, spiritual care, healthcare (nursing/allied health professions), counselling, with at least three years’ experience in delivering spiritual care e.g. pastoral work, chaplaincy, counselling.  As well as making presentations, teaching or group facilitation. 
Ability to work across sites, work out of hours and to take part in our on call rota is essential. UK driver and car owner.

The post holders will:
Be registered with the UKBHC (www.ukbhc.org.uk) or willing to work towards registration in the first three years.
Deliver appropriate spiritual, religious and pastoral care to all patients, visitors, staff and volunteers, regardless of faith or life stance.
Act as a link to various community faith and belief groups, supporting and facilitating the care of their members while they are in healthcare. 
Support the systemic integration of spiritual care into healthcare provision through working as part of the multidisciplinary team providing holistic care and providing training and support for staff and volunteers.   
Act as chaplain to the service location through participating in the major incident plan and providing leadership in response to staff issues and events, which require communal recognition and action. 
Facilitate the provision of inclusive worship and religious expression when required.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.  

The successful candidates will:

Be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline, e.g. theology, religious studies, spiritual care, healthcare (nursing/allied health professions), counselling.

Have experience in delivering spiritual care e.g. pastoral work in a faith community, chaplaincy, counselling.

Have a contemporary knowledge base of different religions and faiths and the ability to work harmoniously in an ecumenical/interfaith environment and with those from different life stance groups.

Have experience in making presentations, teaching or group facilitation.

Have a detailed knowledge of the new Scottish Framework for delivering Spiritual Care, together with a working knowledge of CEL (2009), the Data Protection Act, the Freedom of Information Act and the NHS Lothian strategy.

Be computer literate.

Be able to demonstrate continuous professional development.
