Position

An opportunity has arisen for an  Assistant Head Cook based at Ayrshire Central Hospital.

The main kitchen at Ayrshire Central Hospital provides in excess of 600 patients prepared and cooked meals every day, including therapeutic diets to patients, as well as meal services for the staff and the public. In addition, we cater for and provide hospitality for meetings and functions.

What you will do:

Your duties will include the man management of staff, responsibility for communication and direction of all staff within your area. Organising staff duty rotas to include leave, in house training provision of high quality, safe and cost-effective catering service to patients, staff and visitors.

You will maintain a high standard of hygiene and implement and comply with the legislative requirements required by the Food Safety Act 1990 which incorporates the Food Hygiene Regulations 2006 and the departmental HACCP 

Maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout all Catering Departments to include main kitchen, dining areas, washing-up of all equipment, machinery, crockery, and cutlery associated with the catering service.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

You are expected to hold a City and Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or an SVQ/NVQ qualification along with a Food Hygiene Certificate.

You will be an organised person with kitchen management skills. Experience in large scale catering, preferably within NHS would be advantageous but not essential as full training will be given. You should have the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team. Good communication skills are essential

37 hours per week

Shift Pattern:

5 days over 7 days 

A degree of flexibility is essential, applicants who wish to be considered, must be available to cover shifts within the department between the hours of 0630 and 1830 including weekends.
