Locum Appointment for Training in Medicine of the Neurosurgery

Applications are welcome for the above Fixed Term 12 months, Full Time 40 hours per week post based in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

This is one year locum training post in Neurosurgery replaces a trainee that has gone Out of Programme. The successful candidate would be expected to participate in the running of the on-call both during the day and out of hours, including weekends, as well as obtaining operative experience commensurate with the stage of their training. All trainees will be expected to do scheduled ward rounds and attend clinics on a weekly basis. An Educational and Clinical Supervisor will be assigned from the outset.

The Department of Neurosurgery is situated within The Department of Clinical Neurosciences, Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. The Unit supplies a regional service to a population of 1.7 million, mainly from the South-East Scotland, NHS Fife, NHS Borders, NHS Forth Valley and NHS Dumfries and Galloway.

The Department has close links with the Departments of Neurology, Neuropathology, Neuro-anaesthesia, Neuroradiology, Maxillofacial Surgery, with Paediatric services at the Royal Hospital for Children and with the Oncology Services at the East of Scotland Oncology Centre.  The department also has visiting specialists from Neuro-ophthalmology and Neuro-otology.

This post has deanery approval for training and the successful applicant will receive training opportunities at the appropriate level based on previous experience.

There may be a possibility to extend this appointment to the end of the training year. The extension may be at any of the hospitals on the rotation.
