Healthcare Support Worker Pre-employment Training Programme

Adult Acute Hospital

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde are looking to enrol candidates in our Pre Employment Training Programme for Hospital Healthcare Support Workers.

This 5 week unpaid training programme is open who are residents in our Health Board Area, not in employment or in education and interested in training to be a Healthcare Support worker within a Hospital Setting.

This is a Sector Based Work Academy Programme (SWAP) approved by the DWP and Job Centre Clients will not be required to attend their local Job Centre during the programme and will continue to receive their benefits.

Who can apply?

Please note that these posts are not eligible for visa sponsorship as they do not meet the minimum salary threshold.

Candidates who are interested in applying for this programme must be registered with/eligible to register with DWP or one of our employability partners, not be in employment or education and be a resident in our Health Board area.

This programme is designed to support candidates who have no previous experience/training/education in Healthcare to develop the skills and experience to help them begin their career. We are looking to enrol people with good communication skills, a caring outlook and a genuine interest in working as a Hospital Healthcare Support Worker and who can demonstrate the interpersonal and empathic skills essential for this role.

By the end of the programme trainees will have had the benefit of NHS training in key areas, have obtained Scottish Moving and Handling Passport and completed a 3 week ward based placement to put their training into practice and test out if the role of a Healthcare Support worker is for them.

Successful completion of this programme guarantees that you will be interviewed for suitable permanent Band 2 Healthcare Support Worker vacancies across our NHS GGC Board Area.

Placements for this programme will be hosted in Adult In Patient services.

·    Please note that places on the programme are limited and not everyone who applies will be invited to attend for selection.

·    This is an unpaid 5 week training programme commencing on Monday 8th July 2024 to Friday 08th August 2024 inclusive. Candidates must available to attend and complete the full programme timetable.

I already have healthcare experience/training/qualifications can I still apply?

If you would like to work in the NHS and have previous experience or training/qualifications in healthcare we would ask that you to apply for our current vacancies.
