The Isles of Barra and Vatersay are equally renowned for their shimmering beaches and turquoise waters as they are for their warm welcome and strong sense of identity and community. And it is in this unique, safe and idyllic location that a rare opportunity has arisen for a Practice Nurse to join our Barra nursing team.

We are looking for a highly motivated nurse with experience in working in general practice within a remote and rural environment to join our integrated nursing team and our wider multi disciplinary team in primary care.  You will work closely with our GPs, practice admin team, developing Advanced Nurse Practitioners, the integrated nursing team in Barra, and other Primary Care Specialist Clinicians, including our Primary Care Pharmacist and First Contact Physiotherapist.

This role will cover our new 2c Barra Medical Practice.  This role presents a great opportunity for a nurse who is seeking move to the island to improve their work-life balance, or a nurse based in the Western Isles who is looking for a new opportunity with daytime working arrangements..  The role will allow you to work to the top of your grade and support will be given to anyone looking to grow their nursing skills and develop their practice, providing the chance for a great sense of achievement.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
