Due to retirement of the current post holder we are seeking an experienced GCRAB, AHCS Registered Principal Genetic Counsellor with extensive post- registration experience. The successful candidate will manage, lead and develop a team of Genetic Counsellors and Nurses in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.
Aberdeen is a wonderful city surrounded by beautiful countryside. The Service serves a population of around 850,000, covering Grampian, the Highlands, Shetland, Orkney and the Western Isles. The successful applicant will be part of a team which comprises of Clinical Geneticists, Genetic Counsellors, Research Nurses, Family History Nurses, Health Care Assistant, Administrative, and Molecular and Cytogenetic staff.
The service has strongly established links with Child Health Services (including Community Child Health and Learning Disability Services), with Maternity Services, and with Acute Medical and Surgical Services for adults. There is also close collaboration with the University of Aberdeen Institute of Medical Sciences and Applied Health Sciences.
The successful candidate will join the existing Clinical Genetic Team with an office based in Aberdeen. He /she will manage their own mixed case-load including a variety of general genetic conditions, cancer genetics, cardiac and pre-natal genetics. He /she will demonstrate excellent counselling skills and knowledge of the psychosocial impact of how genetic conditions affect patients and their families.
The successful applicant should be a current GCRAB Sign off Mentor (or willing to become a SOM and will be actively engaged in supporting and delivering mainstream genetic education across the region. Previous management experience is desirable but not essential.
