What you will do:

An opportunity has arisen for a band 3 Nursing Assistant within Station 4, University Hospital Ayr.

Previous experience in a caring environment is essential as is having achieved SVQ level 3 or working towards this qualification.  You will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to communicate well with members of the multidisciplinary team.  You will be able to carry out patient observations and be familiar with NEWS.

You will be flexible to shift patterns and have a genuine interest in delivering a high standard of person centred care.  

You will be required to demonstrate a positive attitude, be a motivated individual who is willing to undertake training to develop new skills. You will be required to use your own initiative whilst working as a member of the multidisciplinary team.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

  • SVQII in healthcare or working towards or equivalent experience gained working in a caring environment/role
  • You are required to possess a caring, friendly disposition
  • An ability to work with people as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • The ability to prioritise assigned workload
  • The following mandatory training will be required:
  • Induction
  • Basic life support
  • Moving/handling
  • Violence/aggression
  • Fire lecture
  • Other topics related to area of work e.g. pressure area care, continence care, news , dementia and delirium

Hours:

1 post - 28.75 hours per week

1 post - 23 hours per week

These will be worked on a rotational basis covering day and night shifts, weekend working and twilight shifts.

From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced.  Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran will implement this change but it may not be possible to fully transition from 1 April and there may therefore be some areas of the organisation where implementation may take longer.  If the department is currently unable to safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week (pro rata for part-time staff)  until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety - you will, of course, be remunerated accordingly. NHS Ayrshire and Arran is committed to full implementation of the 37 hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so
