A vacancy has arisen within Substance Use Service for Band 7 Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist to work with young people with substance use and mental health difficulties. The post requires 1st level Registered Mental Nurse (RMN) trained to degree level with advance practice at Masters Level or working towards this qualification within the fields of substance use and child and adolescent mental health.

The post holder will provide clinical expertise, assessment, advice on appropriate treatment interventions, formulation of patients needs and care planning, risk assessment, leadership and supervision to nursing staff engaged in the delivery of evidence-based, effective, specialist interventions to those with substance use problems which includes drug and alcohol problems within co-morbid mental health issues.

The Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist will implement the principles of the recovery model of care and treatment for those with alcohol and drug use problems. The post holder will support Barnardo’s substance service with liaison between CADS and CAMHS service.

This role also involves the provision of formal, structured supervision and training to ensure that individuals engaged in treatment is progressing along the recovery pathway and that the appropriate clinical interventions are delivered to facilitate this. The role will include liaison with multi-agencies to plan and co-ordinate patient care and follow up in the community.

The substance use services promote the recovery model and the role of the post holder is to establish an integrated model of care in conjunction with partner agencies, good interpersonal skills and experience of team working is an essential requirement for this post.

Ability and willingness to travel throughout the area of service delivery is essential for this post.
