POST: GENITOURINARY MEDICINE AND BBV CLINICAL RESEARCH FELLOW
BASE: NHS GREATER GLASGOW & CLYDE
Applications are invited for one clinical research fellow post in Genitourinary Medicine in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. This post is available to start in August 2024 for a fixed term of maximum 12 months, ending July 2025. The post is based at Sandyford Central but could include other duties at other locations in the Health Board area, depending on the post holder’s areas of interest e.g. HIV services for NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde are based at the Brownlee Centre in Gartnavel Hospital. Some research activities may require travelling to Glasgow Caledonian University. The successful applicant will lead the day-to-day delivery of the ePrEP Clinic Feasibility Study at Sandyford Central. This is a prestigious Scottish Government-funded research project, which aims to deliver an online PrEP clinic (ePrEP Clinic) for Scotland. It is led by Prof Claudia Estcourt from the Beyond Blood Borne Viruses Research Programme at Glasgow Caledonian University (https://www.gcu.ac.uk/research/beyond-blood-borne-viruses). Key duties include clinical responsibility for PrEP care for the participants under the supervision of Prof Estcourt, Dr Ceilidh Grimshaw (co-investigator) and the wider consultant team, operationalising the research protocols within the clinical service, and leading local data collection.
The successful applicant will be working predominately on a research study that aims to assess the feasibility of providing PrEP to existing PrEP users through the ePrEP Clinic pathway. For context, the ePrEP Clinic is intended to be an added option for established PrEP users, whose monitoring needs are relatively straightforward, to complete their regular PrEP review appointments. Our previous research suggests that this could make PrEP more convenient for users and increase capacity in clinic. The ePrEP Clinic consists of postal self-sampling for HIV and STIs, an online medical questionnaire that determines if any clinical input is required before/in conjunction with PrEP prescription and subsequent PrEP provision by post where appropriate. In this study, we aim to offer a cohort of PrEP users the option to complete their routine PrEP review through the ePrEP Clinic. It will be the successful applicant’s responsibility to manage this cohort of participants, providing appropriate care and collecting study data. You will become part of the team in Scotland’s largest sexual health and HIV service. Will we train you, develop your research and clinical skills and knowledge, and help you achieve your future career goals. Sandyford offers a comprehensive range of Sexual Health services. The service commitment and training opportunities will be tailored according to the successful applicant’s core skills and development needs. These posts have not been approved for Training purposes by NES. To practice medicine in the UK you need to hold both GMC registration and a licence.
