Position
An opportunity has arisen for a Bank Biomedical Scientist based at University Hospital Crosshouse.
What you will do:
You will provide specialist testing services, including the analysis of results using specialist equipment and manual testing methods. You will be working with our modern analytical equipment – Sysmex XN and BioRad IH-500 platforms. You will be undertaking testing in an accurate, precise, timely and safe manner. You should have the ability to use professional judgement to assess quality control / technical failures to ensure the consistent quality of patient results. You will be expected to answer enquiries from clinical staff, give advice on tests and specimen types and give results and reference ranges and as such you should possess excellent communication skills. You will be working with our computing Clinisys Winpath system as well as our small but modern Immunology section.
Being able to following protocols and guidelines ensuring patient safety and confidentiality with the ability to work in a dynamic laboratory are essential skills for this role.
You should be able to work as part of a team as well as your own initiative however seek further clarification if required. It is essential you able to work well under pressure.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:
It is essential that you have obtained IBMS Specialist Diploma in Haematology (with Hospital Transfusion) and have experience working in a busy NHS UKAS accredited Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratory. You should have a BSc Honours degree in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent which is acceptable to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) / Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).
HCPC registered is essential
It is essential that you have completed IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Haematology with Hospital Blood Transfusion or you can demonstrate an equivalent level of skills and knowledge obtained whilst working as a B6 Specialist BMS in Haematology & Blood Transfusion.
You must participate in CPD as required by accreditation body and by Health Care Professions Council.

Hours: This is a bank post, as and when required however you should have the flexibility to work the following:
Potential shifts: Mon - Fri 09:00 – 17:00, 13:00 - 22.00, 14:00 - 23:00 and Sat – Sun 09:00 – 21:00
Driving Licence/Car Ownership: A Car licence/Car ownership is essential to this role.
