Orthotics and Prosthetics Technician

This post is advertised as a full time post however we are happy to consider part time and job share positions in line with the service requirements. Please note: part-time consideration the salary will be pro-rata.

An opportunity for an Orthotics and Prosthetics Technician, has arisen within NHS Lothian at the SMART (Southeast Mobility and Rehabilitation Technology) Centre, Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh. The SMART Centre (www.smart.scot.nhs.uk) provides highly specialised clinical rehabilitation technology services across the southeast of Scotland.

Applications are invited from individuals who have Served a Recognised Craft Apprenticeship /SVQ Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship or Higher National Certificate, National Progression Awards/ Professional Development Awards (SCQF-7) or a Prosthetics and Orthotics Technician Modern Apprenticeship (4 year) at the same level, or equivalent qualification.

Experience in Orthotics would be an advantage as this post will initially be working in the Orthotics Service. In addition, the applicant must be a good team worker, communicator, enjoy a full workload and have genuine interest in providing high quality patient service and care.

This vacancy offers the successful candidate an exciting opportunity to work within the field of rehabilitation, specifically in Orthotics and Prosthetics and initially in Orthotics.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Recruiting Board.
