An exciting opportunity has arisen within the NHS Grampian eHealth Department for an IT Network Engineer. We are looking for a knowledgeable, self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team of highly skilled network engineers. Candidates should have good people, communication, problem solving and technical network skills, as well as being a good team player, with the ability to work autonomously.
The role will provide the successful applicant with an interesting, varied and rewarding challenge, as the team provides and manages the critical underlying network infrastructure across more than 120 sites within NHS Grampian. Currently the team are working on several significant projects, using new and innovative technologies, providing one of the most modern, high capacity and highly available networks in the country.
The key technical areas the role encompasses, for both wired and wireless networks, are network design and best practice, network security, network performance, availability monitoring, and supporting our user base accessing the network. The post holder will work as part of an established team, ensuring the network is developed and maintained to the highest standards.
Candidates should be educated to degree level (ideally in a relevant subject) and have proven extensive hands-on network experience gained working in an IP networking environment. Experience with Aruba switches and Cisco wireless networks is beneficial, as is industry certification, such as CCNA. It is also desirable to have knowledge and experience of IP voice technologies.
The successful candidate will be based in the Communications Centre, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Aberdeen, but will be required to undertake duties at other sites throughout Grampian. The ability to travel between sites is important. Pool cars/vans are available for this purpose, but it is essential the post holder currently holds a permanent driving license permitting them to drive a car in the UK. The option to participate in a hybrid model of working (part office based, part working from home) is available to the successful candidate.
The eHealth department is currently in the process of becoming the Digital Directorate, and will be undertaking an organisation change process to embrace a more modern structure and new ways of working.
